So I finally watched
Code Geass. *__* Both seasons. And I feel ridiculously stupid for having taken so long to do that, but at least I'm part of this insanely large fandom. xDDD
Sooo~. I must say that my first impression regarding the series was "OMG, LIGHT! YOU'RE BACK! AND WITH A GUNDAM!" Honestly, I found myself wondering about who came first: Light
or Lelouch? XD And of course I couldn't help but think of the
Gundam series whenever one of the Knightmares appeared on screen. x3
I've watched all the episodes really quickly and I enjoyed it immensely. I like
anything with a well-thought plot and developed characters, but I think it could have ended... Better. x___x I mean, I can accept the whole thing behind the Geass and how it manifests itself differently from person to person, but R2 suddenly became ABSURD with that whole thing about Gods and whatnot and with people who were supposed to be dead coming back. o__O Actually, Code Geass seems to follow
Supernatural's "anyone can die" line of work - but whether they stay dead is an entirely different matter. XD Actually, I recommend the article on Code Geass at the
TV Tropes! Spoilers galore, but whoa, such an amusing read. x3
So, regarding the characters...
Lelouch is someone my friend
hated as the series went on, but he loves Light - so I was waiting for me to feel like that but... I didn't. XD I really
like Lelouch, even if he's a manipulative bastard for 99,9% of the time. But, unlike Light, Lelouch has some
genuine emotions and he truly cares for certain people, especially Nunnally - and Light didn't really care for his family, since he kills his own
father. >> Anyway. He also seems to care for certain characters and I find his goals more "acceptable" than Light's.
Suzaku... Confuses me. I really liked him at first and I admire him for his view on "trying to change things from inside" and I'm rather similar regarding that side of him - but I'm not a big fan of his. XD He doesn't really seem... Real, being so "good" when everyone else despises him and wants him dead and so on. >_> I
loved it when he decided to team up with Lelouch, though. 8DDD It was so heroic, two of the greatest minds working together, weee! I was "GO GO GO SUZAKU!" all the time. XD
And now, the main girls:
C.C. and
Karen were okay. I don't know why but it's incredibly
easy for me to despire female protagonists these days - it's getting harder and harder to me to like the girls and I can't help but think that it has something to do with the traditional way Japanese girls are usually portrayed. x__x Gah, I remember how badly I had to restrain myself from punching shop assistants while in Japan because they all greeted you with that high-pitched "Irashaimasseeeeee, douzoooo~" and it made me ears
bleed. I have a friend who works at the McDonald's in Japan and he's told me that whenever a girl is hired to work there, she's actually
trained to speak
annoyingly like that because it's supposed to be polite and/or pleasant to the customers. Guh. Srsly, I almost gave up shopping sometimes because of those girls.
But I disgress - what I liked about C.C. and Karen is that both of them had
personality and struggled to achieve their goals. Karen was shorter-tempered and had much more attitude, but they were okay. And I guess I can see
why people ship either C.C./Lelouch or Karen/Lelouch. *nods* Shirley was okay too, despite her being much more the type of girl I usually do
not like - but she was nice! :D She seemed real and beliavable and not utter annoying like, say, Yuki from
Vampire Knight. I felt sorry for her not being with Lulu. :x
Now... I really, REALLY disliked
Euphemia and
Anya. -____- GAH, I HATE THOSE CHARACTERS, SRSLY. Overly cute, fluffy princesses full of peaceful ideas and whatnot... I honestly admire people who are idealistic, but there's a limit to how naïve you can be when facing reality. -_-b Euphie was just stupid sometimes, really. And Anya... I really dislike insanely talented, cold kids with no memory of their past. It's incredibly common in anime-verses and yet so far-fetched! O__O Give it up already, people. Kids are
different IRL. Kaguya is much more likable and funny! :D And
Cornelia is my heroine, srsly - her voice is gorgeous (her seiyuu usually voices BOYS. -_- She has such a beautiful and deep voice - and it's very womanly!).
And since we're speaking of seiyuus... OMFG,
Xing-ke was voiced by no other than
MIDORIKAWA HIKARU. SNFKNHDJBFG, MIDORIKAWA HIKARU. ♥ I was sooo
happy when I found out about this. *__* I was literally grinning and smiling by myself, really! I love Midorikawa since
Schuldig from
Weiß Kreuz and he's one of my favourite seiyuus, along with
Seki Toshihiko and probably
Jun'ichi Suwabe and
Hayami Shou. Anyway! I loved the character as well - he's a bishounen (well, Midorikawa voices him, so that's a given xD) and I remember looking at him at the final chapter of the 1st season and thinking "hmmm, this long-haired guy must be someone interesting!". I liked his relationship with the tiny Chinese Empress. ♥ He was just
awesome, period.
And now... My new obsession: Schneizel and Kanon! They gotta be the most
kanon canon couple from CG
and I mean it. >D Kanon is just in R2 and he introduces himself as the "aide to His Highness Schneizel to public and
private matters". 8DDD He waves it off as a joke afterwards, but it was soooo funny to see the reaction of the girl who he had said that to. XD And plus, he's a
crossdresser, accoding to the CG novels - and he was fired from every job he had because of that habit, until
Schneizel, Prime-Minister and Second Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire, hired him. As Kanon said, "Schneizel liked eccentric people like him". XDDD There's not much info on him, but it's so deliciously easy to slash him... I just don't understand why there's so
little fanfic around for such a pairing. o__o They even have a picture drama in which they talk about their school days - they went to school together and
Schneizel used his whip on Kanon. 8D DUDE. DUUUUDE. *slams head against the wall* I NEED MOAR FANFICTION. I even wrote a drabble about them which will eventually be translated into English
because I would love reviews. :3
Other highly likable characters were
Lloyd with his crazy scientist demeanour;
Cecil and how believably nice and normal she seemed (if compared to her co-worker, Lloyd xD) and
Gino, the only Knight of Round I really liked. xD He was such a
genki and nice boy, I really think that he and Karen would make a great pairing. :D
So, in short, I enjoyed both seasons and I wished for more, but it doesn't seem
that likely. I now have to find something else to entertain me with... Since Kuroshitsuji's 2nd season has been greenlit but so far we got nothing. NOTHING. And the 2nd season was announched in
June! *pouts* I NEED MOAR SEBASTIAN. The OVA was such
torture~. Oh, how I had missed Sebastian's "Yes, my Lord"s, SID's "Monochrome no Kiss" opening, Grell's random outbursts... Everything! ♥ So, until then... I need recs! :x Anyone is reading/watching anything good these days?
It's random and unrelated to anything else, but I need to point out that Morrie is such an awesome singer and DEAD END is such a legendary band that ONLY them managed to get Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance" from my last.fm profile. Okay, GLAY deserves an honorary mention, but I've been listening to DEAD END's new "Metamorphosis" album nonstop for almost three hours? Princess is the best song, imho. I'm glad they're back together after 20 years! ♥
